Phi Theta Kappa advisor Barbara Blair was honored with the 2014 Continued Excellence Award for Advisors, presented by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society during the annual convention in Orlando, Florida, on April 24-27.
The Continued Excellence Award for Advisors recognizes advisors who have served at least four years and have previously won a Distinguished Advisor Award.
“I am honored to have been awarded such an illustrious award, however there is nothing more rewarding than working with all the past and present members of the Eta Beta Chapter,” Blair said.
Blair will be retiring from teaching at SWTJC this summer after 44 years of service.
The Eta Beta Chapter was presented with two chapter awards: a Distinguished Honors in Action Project Award for the research project on education and a Beta Alpha Continued Excellence Award for being named a Distinguished Chapter for three years in a row.
“I am very proud of the chapter for being recognized as one of the top Phi Theta Kappa chapters, Blair said. “David Burchfield and the chapter’s research committee should be commended for the Honors in Action project.”
George Melchor, Eta Beta Chapter Finance Officer, received a Distinguished Chapter Officer Award for his outstanding work with the chapter.
The Eta Beta Chapter was also listed in the Top 100 Chapter List and the Five Star Chapter List.
